The purpose of modernization is creation of multifunctional MiG-29 aircraft capable to perform a wider range of combat missions.

Main areas of modernization: 1. Increase in range of used aircraft weapons.
2. Implementation of new operational modes of Radar and Fire Control System (RFCS), including the modes of earth coverage and mapping.
3. Increase of accuracy and widening functional capabilities of navigation system.
4. Increase of flight distance from 2900 km up to 4900 km by installing the system of in-flight refueling.
5. The use of complex control and propulsion systems of the modernized aircraft.
6. Installation of real-time informational-and-analytical system.
7. Modernization of the information-control field cabin.
8. Application of video registration system. Ensures audio signal of communication system and video data registration from MFI and HUD.
9. Installation of «Satellite» – the system of electronic countermeasures.
