SATELLITE is an onboard system of individual radio-electronic protection of the aircraft against high precision radar guided weapons.
The operating principle of the equipment is based on creation of interference to goniometrical channels of electronic means of weapon control (similar foreign systems are known as “Cross-eye”). The main advantages of SATELLITE equipment are the following: with high expectancy it eliminates the possibility of hitting the protected object by missiles with radar guided homing heads, the interference is automatically created to all attacking radar stations of the enemy, the jamming impact is formed by the system at all stages of combat mission. SATELLITE is a lightweight and small-size equipment, it requires only some minor modifications of the object during installation, does not occupy a separate suspension point on the aircraft; it is much more reliable than the existing systems of electronic protection, besides, it requires no special ground support means, being exceptionally easy to operate.
When the enemy radar operates in the scanning (target search) mode, the system creates masking interference in the channels of range and angular data. The enemy’s displays will show numerous false target marks making it difficult to identify the true target amidst the false ones.
In the tracking mode the system destroys the front of falling electromagnetic wave and compels the scanning systems to change for tracking the false maneuvering target, creating latent driven deflection of goniometric tracking systems which leads to initiation of intense sign-alternating errors in the circuit of missile guidance. In such cases the enemy’s radar weapon control indicators do not show the features of jamming impact, thus making it possible to launch the guided missile towards the false maneuvering target. Here the missile will follow considerable false angular control commands and quickly lose its speed, which will result in reducing its flight range, increase of current miss, and as a consequence, the missile will fail to hit the target.
The reliable electronic protection is achieved by creating interference which efficiently affects the goniometrical channels of electronic means of weapon control being part of airborne interception missile systems and air defense missile systems.
